I’m giving myself some ‘assignments’ lately. Just to practice certain elements in photography and learn to work with restrictions.
So I got off my arse and went out to the local heath, with the following restrictions:
- A square crop (cropped in Lightroom since I can’t set my Canon 5D mark II to an aspect ratio of 1:1);
- Black and white;
- Using a 35 or 85mm lens.

Another school assignment. I had to make an A3-sized ad. It didn’t matter for which product, as long as it was original.
I’ve always been an enthusiast of the Victorinox Swiss-army knives (SAK). I got my first SAK when I was 6 and went camping. I’ve become really fond of them. Plus, when I read the assignment, I immediately had this idea in mind. When ideas happen in the blink of an eye, I’ve learned that most of them are pretty good ;)
Anyway, I think it’s important for advertisements (and commercials) to have a certain sense of humour. In my experience, it’s easier to remember an ad that made you smile (or grimace, but that’s a negative association).
I guess it’s pretty clear what it implies ;)
